Customizing a Standard Fiber Optic Kit with DMX Programmability for a Client

A client wanted to add DMX control to our standard RGBW fiber optic kit. We integrated programmability without redesigning the product — unlocking dynamic sequences for stage, event, and architectural applications.

Project Behind-the-Scenes

We love a good challenge here at ElisaCustom, especially when it involves taking a standard product and breathing new, exciting life into it. That’s exactly what happened recently when Keegan approached us with a unique idea for the standard RGBW fiber optic machine kit.

During mass production, we faced a significant challenge: helping Keegan save costs. The sample cost structure included the standard RGBW kit, custom DMX PCB board, and assembly fees — a significant investment.

After multiple rounds of negotiation, we reached an agreement with the original manufacturer: they would supply the LEDs and housing components, while we took responsibility for custom PCB design, final assembly, and testing. This collaboration allowed us to reduce costs while maintaining quality — delivering a custom solution at a more accessible price point.

Let’s walk through the journey of turning his vision into a tangible reality.

The Starting Point: A Versatile Fiber Optic Kit

Our standard RGBW fiber optic machine kit is already a popular choice, offering users a flexible way to create stunning lighting effects. It comes with a range of fiber optic cable options to suit different needs, and we offer both Chinese-made and Aili branded versions of the fiber, giving users choices based on their preferences and requirements.

The Spark: Adding DMX Programmability

While the kit itself is versatile, Keegan had a specific goal in mind: he wanted to retain the core fiber optic functionality but add the capability for DMX control.

This would allow for much more complex, dynamic, and programmable lighting sequences – a powerful upgrade for users looking for greater control.

Our Solution: Customization Without Reinventing the Wheel

We didn’t need to design an entirely new product. Instead, we focused on integrating DMX programmability into the existing kit without altering its fundamental structure, ensuring:

  • Seamless integration – The DMX control works harmoniously with the existing fiber optic system

  • User-friendly operation – Programmable lighting sequences accessible through standard DMX controllers

  • High flexibility – Users can now create dynamic scenes, chases, and color-changing effects beyond the standard kit’s capabilities

  • Reliable performance – All modifications maintained the quality and reliability of the original design

What This Upgrade Means for Users

Feature

Why Customization Matters

Not every project requires a completely new product. Sometimes, the best solution is taking a proven standard product and adapting it to meet specific requirements. This project with Keegan demonstrates:

Lesson

Why It’s Important

Standard products can be upgraded

There is no need to start from scratch for every custom request

DMX integration adds value

Programmable control unlocks new possibilities

Client collaboration leads to innovation

Listening to client needs often sparks the best ideas

Final Thoughts

This project is a perfect example of why we enjoy what we do: taking a client’s vision and finding a way to make it work. Keegan’s request to add DMX programmability to our standard fiber optic kit resulted in a powerful new tool that can now serve even more applications.

If you have a standard product in mind that needs a custom upgrade — whether it’s adding DMX control, integrating a new chip, or modifying connectors — we are ready for the challenge.
